A kilojoule counter built for Australia

OzCal is an Australian nutrition tracker that reads energy the way your label does: kilojoules first, calories one tap away. Log a meal by photo, voice, barcode or search against 26,600 verified Australian and New Zealand foods, including Woolworths and Coles products and the chains you actually eat at. Barcode scanning is free and unlimited, forever, and there are no ads.

Why an Australian app instead of an American one

Every big tracker was built for a country that counts calories and eats different food. You end up converting kilojoules in your head, guessing which "meat pie" is the Australian one, and scrolling past products you cannot buy here. Two of the largest apps now put barcode scanning behind a subscription as well.

OzCal starts from the Australian label. The number on the packet is the number in the app, the foods are the ones on the shelf at your Woolies, and the chain items carry the same kilojoules the menu board shows.

What it does

What it will not do

No ads. No selling your data. No weight-loss promises, no medication talk, no before-and-after bodies, and no countdown timers on the paywall. Energy tracking is a tool, not a judgement.

Try the data first

Every number below comes from the same catalogue the app uses.

Common questions

Is there a kilojoule counter app made for Australia?

Yes. OzCal is built in Sydney and leads with kilojoules the way Australian labels and menu boards do, with calories one tap away. Its catalogue holds 26,600 Australian and New Zealand foods, including supermarket products and chain menu items.

Does OzCal show calories as well as kilojoules?

Yes. One tap switches the whole app between kJ and Cal, and every food page on this site shows both.

Is barcode scanning free?

Yes, unlimited and free, permanently. AI photo and voice logging have a free daily allowance and are unlimited on the paid plan.

Does it work with Apple Health?

Yes. OzCal reads steps, workouts, exercise minutes, resting energy, sleep and weight from Apple Health. It only reads; it never writes to Health.

Does it have Australian supermarket and takeaway foods?

Yes. Woolworths, Coles and Aldi products by barcode, plus chains such as Hungry Jack's, Guzman y Gomez, McDonald's, Subway, Domino's and Boost Juice.

How do I get it?

The beta is open on TestFlight now, and the App Store release follows. Join from the button on this page.
